New York Yankees suffered a tough 14-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles in the final game of their four-game series on Thursday night. While the series split isn’t the worst result

the severity of the loss was a significant blow to the Yankees. Hard fall for Luis Severino Starting pitcher Luis Severino had a particularly trying night.

Severino, who boasted a 3.18 ERA in 102 games last season, appears to be a shadow of his former self this year. In his contract year at age 29, Severino has thrown just 42.2 innings, scraping just under 2.2 Thursday night.

He allowed at least seven earned runs over 10 hits in that short span. Growing concern about Severino’s performance After 77 innings, including 50 strikeouts, Severino’s season ERA rose to an alarming 7.38.

In his last two games alone, he gave up 14 earned runs on 19 hits in just 6.2 innings. In light of these troubling statistics, the Yankees will have to consider cutting ties with Severino at the end of the 2023 season or removing him from the rotation entirely.

The Yankees Offense is struggling to sustain While pitching was definitely a concern, the Yankees’ offense didn’t fare much better as it managed its only run in the ninth.

The Yankees provided little support for their struggling pitchers, tallying six hits, six strikeouts and just two walks. In stark contrast, the Orioles collected 20 hits and 14 runs, including two home runs.

They struck out just five times and secured eight walks. After a poor season, manager Aaron Boone gave Anthony Volpe another chance at the top of the batting order.

While Volpe’s numbers are showing signs of improvement, hitting .220 with an OBP of .291, he still has a long way to go to revive his season.
