Don’t be surprised if the 49ers add another player or two near the trade deadline. It looks like the acquisition of wide receiver Randy Gregory won’t be the last move for the San Francisco 49ers.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the 49ers are looking to sign a wide receiver or cornerback as the trade deadline approaches.

Kyle Shanahan talked about the possibility of the 49ers looking to add another player to the defensive line during his Wednesday press conference.

“We’re always interested in anything that we think will help our team without hurting it, especially going forward,” Shanahan said.

andquot; It’s something we’re constantly looking into. But I think adding [LB/DL] Randy [Gregorio] helped.

I think he did some good things. I think [DL Clelin Ferrell] Cle made some good plays in the game, but we want to do better at everything.

It doesn’t mean we’re just targeting that position or whatever.” Basically, John Lynch of the 49ers is working the phones hard to see if there are players who can provide updates.

Edge rusher and cornerback are usually the most common positions traded at the deadline. In reality, the 49ers need an offensive lineman, especially a right tackle. Colton McKivitz has shown promise so far.

And when the 49ers face a rush like the Philadelphia Eagles, he’ll be deadly serious. Unfortunately, offensive line changes during the season are rare, especially with rookies.

Regardless, the 49ers definitely need help on the defensive line. The corner position could also help, but the priority is speeding up the edge, because speeding up can also help the secondaries.

That’s a better position for improvement than anywhere else on defense, especially if pass rushers struggle to generate sacks.

Maybe the 49ers tap the Washington Commander on the shoulders to get one of their edge rushers like Montez Sweat or Chase Young.
