James Maddison takes a dig at Jurgen Klopp when asked about refereeing the Spurs-Liverpool clash.
James Maddison was on the winning side as Tottenham Hotspur scored a dramatic late winner against Liverpool.
Spurs beat the Reds 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Saturday night’s Premier League clash, with Jurgen Klopp’s side finishing the game with just nine men.
Curtis Jones was sent off in the first half as Liverpool went down to 10 men before Luis Diaz looked to have put Anfield ahead.
The referee marked the goal as offside, but the controversial VAR did not intervene as it should have and allowed the shot.
Spurs took the lead when Diaz’s shot was
blocked as Son Heung-min slotted home, but
Liverpool equalized in the first half with
Cody Gakpo’s goal on the turn. Jurgen
Klopp’s side were reduced to nine men
when Diogo Jota picked up two consecutive
yellow cards with around 20 minutes
remaining.
Victory looked set to be shared but Spurs
only grabbed all three points when
Liverpool defender Joel Matip turned Pedro
Porro’s cross into his own net as Spurs
collected a dramatic late three points in a
stunning clash. .
Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp spoke late after
the loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool manager Klopp explained his
thoughts on sackings and that there are
problems with both. He said: “We scored an
own goal, it’s very difficult to score but I’m
very proud. First red card, Curtis steps on
the ball and goes over. Not a bad save. It
looks different in slow motion. He fills up.
accelerator on the ball and goes over the
ball It’s bad luck.
“[Diogo Jota’s] first yellow was not a yellow.
Then he gets the second one and defending
with nine players is difficult. You want to
build something you need players with a
mentality, and I saw them today, they
fought. Pretty special this -evening..”
But Spurs midfielder Maddison had no
problem being sent off either and appeared
to slide slightly over their Liverpool boss. He
told Sky Sports: “It was definitely [red].
“I also think Curtis Jones was red carded on
the big screen early on. I’m not sure Jurgen
would complain too much about them.”
