Carson Wentz injury: What Doug Pederson and Jadeveon Clowney had to say about the Eagles QB hit Wild Card Round – Seattle Seahawks vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is hit by Seattle Seahawks Jadeveon Clowney during the 90th NFC Wild Card Playoff game at Lincoln Financial Field on January 5, 2020 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

PHILADELPHIA — Carson Wentz sat and waited the past two seasons as injuries sidelined him for the Philadelphia Eagles’ two playoff games, including a Super Bowl victory.

On Sunday, he finally got a chance to take the field in a playoff game for the first time in his four-year career.

It didn’t last long. The 27-year-old lost to the Seattle Seahawks 17-9 in the first quarter after a hard hit by Seahawks linebacker Jadeveon Clowney.

The Eagles said he was evaluated for a concussion and was ultimately ruled out. Read more: Seattle Seahawks 17, Philadelphia Eagles 9:

Quick response to Carson Wentz’s season-ending injury On the first play of the Eagles’ second possession, Wentz scrambled back to the line of scrimmage when Seahawks safety Bradley McDougald tripped him from behind.

As he fell forward, Clowney hit him in the back and crushed him on the turf at Lincoln Financial Field.

It was a borderline wash, and given NFL rules protecting quarterbacks, it wouldn’t have been a surprise if Clowney had been flagged for the hit.

However, the officials did not throw the flag. Wentz finished the drive and was examined on the sideline before entering the locker room. He didn’t come back.
