Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls announced that they have signed veteran big man Derrick Favors to a camp contract. It’s an interesting development because the Bulls already have two traditional big men in the rotation – starter Nikola Vucevic and backup center Andre Drummond.

Another goal in the NBA

The burly big man was the first overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the then New Jersey Nets. However, he did not stay long in the Nets, because in the new season he was traded to the Utah Jazz, where he had his best years. He played 10 seasons in Salt Lake City, averaging 11.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.

After also playing in New Orleans and Oklahoma City, Favors was out of the league last season. He signed a 10-day contract with Atlanta but never played.

Other transactions

In addition to signing Favors, the team also brought home former Kentucky forward Kahlil Whitney. Whitney, a 6-foot-1 power forward who grew up in Chicago, played last season for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the G-League. The Bulls also waived guard Quenton Jackson. Although his time in Chicago was short, Jackson left an indelible mark with a dirty, in-your-face slam on the Milwaukee Bucks last week.
