TRADE ALERT 🚨🚨🚨:49ers considering pursuit

49ers considering pursuit of Zach Ertz? Dec 4, 2023 at 8:09 PM CST • By Ben Levine It looks like a new suitor might be popping up in the Zach Ertz lottery. When coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about the 49ers’ interest in free agency, GM John Lynch said he was exploring a possible trade. On the other hand, Shanahan also admitted that he does not expect the deal to go through. Advertising “I haven’t heard anything right now, so I don’t think so right now,” Shanahan said of a possible Ertz trade (via The Athletic’s Matt Barrows ). “But I have a lot of respect for him as a player. I’ve always been a fan… But right now our (TE) group is fine, at least from my point of view. But we have injuries and things change. . So we’re exploring all options as always.” As Shanahan suggested, the 49ers could use some depth at the position.

WhileBarrows is progressing, Ross Dwelley currently has a sprained ankle and is expected to miss several weeks. It’s not the end of the world for San Francisco’s tight end depth chart, as Charlie Woerner is clearly the TE2 behind George Kittle. However, the injury opens up a spot, and it remains to be seen if the 49ers would prefer a veteran or someone like practice squad TE Jake Tonges. Elsewhere, the Ravens and coach John Harbaugh appear to be moving away from the free agent tight end. As Harbaugh said today, the team is still not counting on the potential return of Mark Andrews, which means the Ravens could be well into the playoffs. Advertising “Anytime a big player is out, watch it,” Harbaugh told reporters (via The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec ). “But I will say this: We like our TE. We really like our guys. I wouldn’t rule out Mark Andrews down the road. … I think we’ll just roll with those guys.” Ertz still took time this afternoon to evaluate all options (per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler). It shouldn’t be long before the veteran finds his next landing spot, and it looks like there are a lot more factions in the works. Advertising
