Al Horford’s Role: Celtics’ Veteran Embraces Flexibility, Focused on Winning, Impacting Game Whether Starting or on Bench!

 

Al Horford’s focus on the Celtics – either starting or on the bench – will affect the win.


Veteran Boston Celtics big man AlHorford, who has routinely started the most games in his NBA career, played off the bench for the first time in the Celtics’second preseason game against  the New York Knicks last week. 

 



 

 That change in his role could become more common after offseason trades bring back Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, both of whom have at least as good a claim to filling the team’s needs as starters. Horford is open to that sacrifice and is focused on how he can contribute to the success of the team. “We’re all looking at the same thing and trying to achieve the same thing,” Horford said, via Connor Roche of Boston Dot Com. – In this particular game, we tried to win the game. That’s the focus.” 

 

 “For me, it’s seeing how I can make a difference in winning. That’s always my focus.” 

 Horford played 23 minutes off the bench, scored 8 points and had a positive impact. He believes the team’s depth and versatility will require different lineups throughout the season. The Celtics appear to be flexible in their starting lineup, and Horford is willing to adapt to whatever it takes to win an NBA championship.
