As Ten Hag has three justifications for Manchester United’s return, Mason Greenwood may face Arsenal.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, United
said they have completed a six-month
inquiry following Greenwood’s arrest in
January 2022.
Greenwood was later charged with
attempted rape, controlling and coercive
behaviour and assault occasioning actual
bodily harm. But he denied all allegations.
And in February of this year, the Crown
Prosecution Service dropped all the charges,
citing the reason: “A combination of the
withdrawal of key witnesses and new
material meant there was no longer a
realistic prospect of conviction.”
It allowed United to start a thorough
internal probe into Greenwood’s future,
which is nearing a conclusion.
The Sun claim Red Devils chief executive
officer Richard Arnold will make the call by
the end of the week, and he could return to
the club as early as next.
The report adds that Greenwood may start
with the U21s to build up his fitness and
match sharpness after last playing a
competitive match in January 2022.
Mason Greenwood is set to return to Man Utd.
But if he hits the ground running on his
return, Ten Hag could be tempted to throw
him in at the deep end while he’s in
desperate need of attacking firepower.
United’s toothless performance against
Wolves on Monday proved as much, despite
the 1-0 win to start their Premier League
campaign, with three problems clear.
Marcus Rashford struggled to make an
impact as the central striker, while 19-year-
old winger Alejandro Garnacho didn’t look
ready to start games on the left.
But with new £72million signing Rasmus
Hojlund recovering from a back injury
picked up in pre-season, Ten Hag will likely
have to work with what he’s got until the
first international break.

Michail Antonio discussed Harry Maguire’s
situation on his podcast
West Ham star Michail Antonio has called
out the “bullying” of Harry Maguire after his
transfer from Manchester United collapsed.
Maguire was the subject of a £30million bid
from the Hammers last week, which his
current club accepted after knocking back
their opening offer of £20m in July.
The England international is keen to fight
for his place at Old Trafford, however, and
the deal has since fallen through with Erik
ten Hag happy to retain him as a valued squad player.
Discussing the situation on this week’s
episode of The Footballer’s Football Podcast,
which he co-hosts with Newcastle striker
Callum Wilson and Radio 1’s Richard
Haywood-Williams, Antonio came to Maguire’s defence.
He said: “I feel like he is a quality player and
I know once he gets his confidence back and
people stop ripping into him and give him
an opportunity to showcase himself again, I
feel like he will actually do well.

“I just feel like it’s been more like people just
been bullying, I think it’s bullying basically. I’ll say it straight.”
Maguire’s inconsistent performances at club
level since moving to United in 2019 have
sparked repeated ridicule on social media
and criticism from the media.
