The longtime NFL sideline reporter took over earlier this season when he brilliantly asked Patrick Mahomes about the pressure for Travis Kelce to touch the Swifties during Taylor Swift’s first appearance at a Kansas City Chiefs game.

Andrews should rightfully take credit for those moments, but he also owns the moments where the spotlight seems to be away from him.

In doing so, he wants to apologize to San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan for what happened during their interview before the Week 13 halftime show at Lincoln Financial Field.

“Over the last couple of years, I’ve been talking a lot about Kyle Shanahan and our interviews,” Andrews said on a recent episode of Erin and Charissa’s “Calm Down” podcast.

“I had fun with Kyle’s scooters; he runs. (Sunday) I had my rain boots on, so I knew I couldn’t run. There’s not much room to run either.

So the one we went to was in the visitor tunnels and it’s clogged. You guys have big bodies and I’m trying to match Kyle.”

Andrews plans to apologize to Shanahan via Zoom as he, Kevin Burkhardt, Greg Olsen and Tom Rinaldi are on call for San Francisco’s upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks. “I want to apologize to him,” he told Thompson.

“I feel so bad – and I’m sure it’s the last thing on his mind, but it’s on my mind. And I feel so overwhelmed by it. I talked a lot about how Kyle runs and I have to follow him… I’m trying to pass him through that tunnel.

And I don’t write stuff with Kyle anymore. I use my phone recorder… I find myself taking about seven shots of Listerine because I know I’m going to get in his face asking how the offense went in the second quarter.

And then the Eagles are known for their explosiveness in the second half, so what will his defense do to make them do that? “But Charissa, the tunnel is so tight. We walk fast. I avoid boys. I’m over him… I beat him like I’m in control of him.

And then my breath is on his face and then I can’t talk right because I’m trying to scream and the Eagles fans are like “**** you.” It’s such high pressure and I’m like a body-shattering buzz and then a breath in my face.

It was a disaster. I feel so bad.” Considering what happened in the second half of his team’s 42-19 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Shanahan probably forgot about that ordeal.

Early in the third quarter, 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw hit Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith out of bounds, resulting in a 15-yard penalty.

Greenlaw was later ejected from the game after an altercation with Eagles director of security Dom DiSandro.

Greenlaw reached DiSandro with a closed fist, leading to a sack that sent Shanahan into a frenzy on the other sideline. DiSandro was also ejected from the game to a standing ovation from the Philadelphia crowd.

So if Shanahan had any concerns about what happened with Andrews, it quickly disappeared in the first few minutes of the third quarter.

It’s certainly a nice gesture on Andrews’ part to apologize, but the 49ers coach probably forgot about the “incident” and moved on. It just shows what sides have to pass to get buckets, and that includes Kyle Shanahan’s body checking.

Despite the pressure and discomfort of the situation, Andrews remained committed to his work and obtained the information he needed for the report.

This incident highlights his professionalism and tenacity as a sideline reporter, although he still feels the need to apologize.
