Former Manchester United Boss On A Course to become next Germany manager

Former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick is now a contender to become the new Germany boss following Hansi Flick’s sacking.

Germany boss Hansi Flick has lost his job less than 24 hours after an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Japan.

Flick has paid the price with the DFB confirming his departure this afternoon following torrid displays in 2023.

Germany have lost four of their six games in 2023 and crashed out of the World Cup in the group stage.

Flick has consistently flopped and with Germany the host nation heading in to Euro 2024, they have decided to make a change.

Rudi Voller will take charge of Germany’s next game with help from Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner, but the search for a long-term successor is on.

Julian Nagelsmann is unsurprisingly in contention but there are now rumours about interest in ex-Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick too.

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney claims that Rangnick has been mentioned as a potential successor with ex-Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner also in the mix.

Rangnick currently manages Austria, attempting to get his coaching career back on track after a rather forgettable stint as United boss.

The 65-year-old is considered to be a highly influential mind in German coaching and could now be targeted to manage the national team.

Leaving the Austria job wouldn’t be easy for Rangnick but the chance to manage Germany – this late into his career – is one that may be difficult to pass up.

How has Rangnick been faring with Austria?

Rangnick was seen as a fairly sensible move having been brought in as interim boss with a view to taking on a consultancy role.

Allowing Rangnick a close look at the United squad seemed wise but performances and results left a lot to be desired.

Rangnick then decided to move on as Erik ten Hag came in, paving the way for him to become Austria boss.

Rangnick has now won six, drawn three and lost four of his 13 Austria games so far.
