IT’S A SAD NEWS: Two Atlanta Falcons Pro-Bowl Players Suspended Due To What Transpired…
Falcons WR Calvin Ridley’s suspension should be reduced by the NFL.The National Football League hammered Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley last March,
suspending him for at least a year for making some online predictions on his phone during league games.
The NFL is also currently considering what to do with Browns (almost Falcons) quarterback Deshaun Watson,
who is believed to be facing more than 25 sexual harassment and assault charges stemming from massage sessions. If he gets even one less game than Ridley, the league’s disciplinary apparatus will look like a broken machine again.
At the very least, the NFL should re-examine the punishment Ridley faces for Watson so that it doesn’t equate what Ridley did with what Watson is accused of doing to multiple women.Ridley ReviewRidley’s suspension is for “at least one year”, meaning the league must reinstate him before he can pitch again.
If the NFL wanted to be tough, it could ban the former Alabama receiver from ever playing again because of his ties to a sports betting program that is believed to run ads during NFL games.
During the sentencing, the league used Ridley as an example of this new online betting that should scare any NFL player who even thinks about approaching a game if he is part of an NFL team.
It’s almost unforgivable for the league to even vaguely violate the “integrity” of the game, which seems a little odd considering it’s a game that has historically been terrible at punishing domestic abusers and has a terrible legacy of breeding CTE.
its alumni and once saw a prominent quarterback for protesting against equal rights as a black man.
If you want to preserve the integrity of the
field, this is a sport with a long history of
referees who compromise the product, rule
changes that screw everything up, and the
naked pursuit of profit regardless of how
the players feel.
From a “defensive” perspective, stiffening
Ridley’s punishment makes sense, but the
NFL has long claimed to be a league that
cares about more than just the results of
plays on the field.Ridley is now a prime
example of what happens when you really
end up on the NFL’s bad side.
Even if what he did was stupid and hugely
avoidable — no one here argued that he
shouldn’t be punished for it at all — it would
never have taken more than a month or two
to send this important message.
Laaja pleaded guilty and now has to pay the
ultimate price for something any of us could
legally do in a country where it is allowed.
Sports gambling is all the rage these days
thanks to the rise of sites like FanDuel and
DraftKings, and at some point the league
will have to sit up and admit that players
probably use these sites all the time to bet
on other sports and games. which they don’t
do in the NFL.
Ridley just made the honest mistake of
making it too easy for the scout team to use
him and contribute to his team even though
he didn’t play. A victory in which, especially
last year, there is a certain degree of
doomed faith..
