Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham are in full swing after seven Premier League games. And ahead of the second international break of the season, life is good at Hotspur Way.
Last weekend’s win over Liverpool was another memorable moment for the north London side despite VAR controversy. Spurs have now avoided defeat against some of the top teams in the league – Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United – which has been difficult for the club to achieve in recent years.
Unfortunately, Harriers did not win any of their first three home games. And Tottenham’s visit suggests a comfortable away win.
Tottenham’s start to the season means they are many people’s favorites to beat Kenilworth Road. However, the newly promoted side’s early start will cause problems on Saturday and Postecoglou will be hoping to avoid an upset.
A number of factors can influence the outcome in Luton. However, the creativity and quality of James Maddison and Son Heung-min will almost certainly be important. Firstly, Luton have yet to keep a clean sheet and have been soft in defence.
For the average football fan, this would be easy to appreciate for a club playing in the Premier League for the first time in its history. However, against Burnley in midweek, the Tottenham players will be licking their lips with two goals scored.
Lyle Foster’s opener took Burnley four passes to get from defense to attack and it all went through the middle. Sander Berge, playing in advanced midfield for Vincent Kompany’s side, was given acres of space in the middle of the pitch before slotting past Foster. Tottenham have quality players across their squad, but Maddison has taken the north Londoners to a new level with his positioning and incredible passing. If Spurs can get the England defender between the lines in the right places, Luton have shown they can’t defend it.
For the winner, Jacob Brunn Larsen cut inside before curling past Thomas Kaminski. A simple but effective goal that we at Filo are used to.
It is unclear whether the Spurs captain will
play out wide or centrally, although an
injury to Manor Solomon could force the
South Korean to the left wing for Richarlison
to start at No.9. However, the roles can be
reversed, as seen against Liverpool. Luton
are expected to stave off relegation against
Tottenham, but as they have shown time
and time again this season, their defensive
lapses could be crucial for Spurs to avoid a
huge upset. A win at Luton and a draw
between Manchester City and Arsenal on
Sunday could propel Tottenham to the top of
the Premier League for the first time since
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men won their
opening three games of the 2021/22
campaign.
