Tottenham Hotspur face Wolverhampton Wanderers in an early Premier League opener this weekend and Chris Sutton believes Spurs’ injury and suspension problems will catch up with them.

Tottenham saw their unbeaten run under Ange Postecoglou come to a dramatic end on Monday night as Chelsea took three points in a 4-1 win.

Spurs took an early lead through Dejan Kulusevski but began to unravel when both Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were sent off.

The Lilywhites also saw key players Micky van de Ven and James Maddison leave the pitch injured. All four are now likely to be ruled out of the weekend’s action. So Postecoglou’s men will be looking to bounce back from a chaotic defeat against Gary O’Neil’s Wolves side. They will also need to pick themselves up after last weekend’s defeat to Sheffield United.

Sutton predicts a draw between Wolves and Tottenham

Chris Sutton, in his regular BBC column, left this game with a draw, largely due to Spurs missing players.

He said: “It was incredible to see what Ange

Postecoglou tried to do, holding such a high

line when Tottenham went down against

Chelsea with nine men. I was a fan of his at

Celtic and I know he likes to do things

differently but I’ve never seen anything like

that in my life – and I liked it. “They ended

up losing 4-1 but had chances at 2-1 and

were so close to a draw. Spurs now have

injuries to James Maddison and Micky van

de Ven and Cristian Romero and Destiny

Udogie, so that will be fixed. Against

Tottenham at Molineux.

“Postecoglou doesn’t change the way he

plays, but of course all those absences have

an impact. Wolves were very unlucky to lose

a late penalty against Sheffield United last

week – I thought it was a leap – and they’ve

improved a lot in recent weeks. I entered

the draw on that basis. “Sutton’s Prediction:

1-1.”

Spur online opinion

Both sides are extremely determined not to

lose here again and I think we will see a

much tighter game. Spurs lack a bit of

confidence due to players leaving, but I

think we still have enough to win 2-1.
