49ers should consider S Adrian Amosand#039; and#039;Surprise and#039; Cut the Jets The 49ers should consider the “surprise” of the veteran safety the Jets cut.

Adrian Amos breaks up a pass against the 49ers in the 2022 playoffs. Getty Adrian Amos caught a pass against the 49ers in the 2022 playoffs. Excuse me Adrian Amos may have had a couple.

One of them could be his decision to join the New York Jets this offseason, which did not go well. It culminated in a “surprise” move by the New York Post this weekend that the San Francisco 49ers must have noticed:

Amos and the Jets agreed to sever ties Saturday by mutual consent, according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero. “Veteran safety Adrian Amos and the #Jets have agreed to part ways, per source,” Pelissero wrote on Twitter/X.

Presumably, Amos wanted out of New York because he lost playing time as the season progressed and, at 30, hopes to reach a championship team that needs experienced depth in the backfield on defense.

Sound familiar, 49ers fans? Adrian Amos is a respected veteran safety Adrian Amos is a reasonable player for the 49ers. He is a nine-year veteran who spent four years with the Bruins and four years with the Packers.

He played 66 straight games there for the Packers, starting every game, earning him a captaincy in 2022. He was the Bears’ fifth-round pick out of Penn State in 2016 and made an immediate impact, starting all 16 games as a rookie in Chicago.

But that was not the case in New York. Amos signed on the recommendation of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and played well this season when he got the starting pass.

He’s been behind Jordan Whitehead and Tony Adams on the depth chart, and his playing time has declined over time, with just 62 snaps over the past seven weeks after 203 snaps through the first four weeks of the year.

According to Pro Football Focus, Amos had a 72.7 grade this season, one of the best of his career. His best game of 74.3 came against New England in Week 3 and was a game where he had 72 snaps, or 100%. It was his longest snap of the season.

So Amos can still play. He just needs a new team. Shanahan: 49ers need to be “creative” at safety. This is where the 49ers could come in.

The team suffered back-to-back losses

last month with Talanoa Hufanga and

George Odum both out in back-to-back

weeks, which depleted the team’s depth

at safety and also hurt special teams.

where Odum was a major contributor.

Adrian Amos is an experienced safety

who is also a great special teams player.

Speaking about the loss of Odum and the

depth at safety, 49ers coach Kyle

Shanahan admitted the team needs to be

“creative” at the position. “

(Odum) gives us a lot of depth at safety

because he was the next guy to help us at

safety, which is already lacking at Huff,”

he said. “So the turnover is a big thing on

special teams and our safety is a big

thing.

So we have to be creative with those

things. “Everybody has a chance.

Hopefully we’ll see how this week of

practice goes, who can help us the most

on special teams and who we feel safe

with in case of injuries.

However, a quality veteran safety –

Adrian Amos – suddenly hits the market.
