The Chicago Bulls are not a championship team. Without Lonzo Ball, Chicago doesn’t have the talent to compete in the Eastern Conference. They lost six of their first nine games because Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan were unable to steady the ship.

As such, the NBA is expected to hit the reset button before the Feb. 8 trade deadline. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, teams around the league have sent scouts to Bulls games. The goal is to gather information about all players that may become available.

andquot;I have to tell you, talking to some people around the league, scouts are stuck with Bulls games because they understand that at some point the Bulls can dismantle this team,andquot; Windhorst said on a recent episode of NBA Today. andquot;And they and#039;collect information like and#039;what happens and#039;to the cradles?and#039;andquot;

Chicago is in a difficult situation. DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic are both aging talents. Outside of LaVine and Patrick Williams, the franchise has very few tradeable assets. Opportunities to improve the team through the trade market are limited. Current talent does not have time to wait for a rebuild that will change the team and its fortunes. It makes sense that Chicago could change direction. Their best way to build their assets is to trade away from their current star players. Alex Caruso is another rotation player who could be acquired early in future trades. To continue on the current path would be reckless. The original front office swung for the fences while building the current roster. There are always risks in jumping to the top of the league.

The Bulls finally hit the reset button. A new one is coming. Whether the front office is willing to accept this fact is another matter. However, the writing is on the wall. And when that happens, the trades that happen could change the landscape of the NBA.
