“Wrexham’s Wake-Up Call: Reynolds and McElhenney’s Side Takes a Step Backwards After 5-0 Defeat!”

‘Wake-up call’ – Wrexham’s Luke Young admits Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s side took a “step backwards” after their 5-0 win over Stockport County.

Luke Young admits the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Stockport has woken up Wrexham’s players, managers and owners.

WHAT HAPPENED? The Welsh outfit, branded boardroom level shots by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, suffered a humiliating setback in their last League Two match. They were three goals down before half-time and couldn’t find a way back at Edgeley Park. THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wrexham have scored five goals in three fourth-round games this season and Young admits they have a lot of work to do as a team. He told The Athletic: “It was a bad day at the office. But I have no doubt – and I support everyone in this dressing room – that we will get it right from Monday. The level went up (after the win) and we had to raise our game. until Stockport we slowly got used to the uphill climb and slowly found our feet. It was a step back and a wake-up call of sorts.

 WHAT THEY SAID

Wrexham remain seventh in the table – and inside the play-off places – as a result of their latest blow, and Phil Parkinson has vowed to turn things around. The Dragons boss said: “We’ve put ourselves in a strong position with the last few performances. But the first half was as bad as I can remember. Now we have to look at the reasons why it didn’t work against Stockport. Let’s do it and fix it next week.”

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? Wrexham have a week to lick their wounds and work on plugging defensive leaks before welcoming Crewe, just above them in the StoK table, on Saturday – hoping to find the spark and star striker Paul again. Mullin can score his first goal of the season.
