There was speculation that Derrick White would continue with the Boston Celtics before midnight on October 24th, especially after the Jrue Holiday trade. The rebuilding of Boston and its roster this summer paved the way for Boston to establish White as the number one team on the board. It was no surprise that no agreement was reached between the two sides.

White will become a free agent in the summer of 2025. Thanks to two-way progress, he earned an increasing salary. Over the past week, White said there has been little discussion between his camp and the Celtics about an extension.

Even with the Holiday acquisition, White will likely still be in Boston’s starting and final lineup, playing both his Sixth Man and Al Horford roles. The team and this summer’s trades will allow their All-Defensive guard to get significantly more minutes and opportunities.

Given the likelihood that White will get more touches, his numbers will easily increase with market value by July 2025. Both he and Holiday can handle point guard duties whenever the Celtics decide to run their double-sized lineup. White was all positivity leading up to the extension schedule, knowing the mutual desire of both parties for each other.

Boston is now the second team on the apron after the holiday trade. Even before the new contracts take effect, the price of their top four, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis, is close to $120 million this season.

In addition, Whiteand averaged $19 million over the final two seasons of his contract. Most expect him to continue last year when he was one of the Celticsand#039; top guns, finishing it off with a great postseason.

White’s positive attitude toward Tuesday’s results and deadline shows his understanding of the love he and his organization share, as well as their high-priced title hopes. With his pockets likely to get deeper this year, he and Boston are likely to strike a deal that suits the Celticsand#039; title window.
