Boston Celtics offseason signing Oshae Brissetti could play the same role for the Cs that Aaron Nesmith had in his first two seasons in the league before Brad Stevens and Co. dealt him to the Indiana Pacers in the 2022 offseason for Malcolm Brogdon — that clock. at least according to NBC Sports’ Darren Hartwell.
“Brissett isn’t much of an offensive threat, but his hustle on both ends of the floor was exactly what the Celtics needed against a tough Heat team,” Hartwell said before adding, “If the energy level of Boston’s front six holds up, expect Joe Mazzulla to add Brissett to the lineup to provide a spark, much like Aaron Nesmith provided the C’s in his two seasons in Boston.

Brissett’s first bucket in Boston was a layup, and his floor time led to a team-best scoring plus-minus in a 119-111 win over the Miami Heat. There’s no doubt that Brissett made an additional contribution against Miami that could keep him in the rotation this season, with starter’s minutes likely to fall under the league’s new rest rules.
Boston Celtics second unit makes minimal impact in home opener against Miami
Boston was bolstered by their starters, who did almost all of the heavy lifting in the C’s TD Garden welcome win over the Heat. The second unit was clearly lacking against Miami, whose bench outscored Boston 20-8. Al Horford still looks a little slower than he did in 2022-23 and may struggle to adjust to life off the bench after starting two straight seasons under two different head coaches. He shot 0-6 from the field and had no points despite 10 rebounds. Payton Pritchard had his only hit, a triple, while Sam Hauser made one of two long shots himself. Brissett missed a layup on his only other attempt.
Boston’s starting lineup is so good that there’s no way it should deteriorate, but the lack of depth at C will strain its tops; a potentially costly event when the later rounds of the postseason roll around. Published on 10/28/2023 at 8:00 AM EDT
