DK Metcalf can’t seem to consistently control his temper.

The Seattle Seahawks’ volatile wide receiver was ejected from the game after getting into another skirmish during the Seahawks’ 28-16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

The incident began when Seattle quarterback Drew Lock threw a pass that was intercepted by 49ers’ linebacker Fred Warner late in the game. Warner laterelled the football to fellow linebacker Dre Greenlaw. Metcalf, who said after the game he thought Warner still had the football, picked up Warner and slammed him to the turf. A miffed Warner then shoved Metcalf in the back. Metcalf ran toward Warner and the two started jawing, with Metcalf grabbing Warner’s facemask.

Both benches streamed out onto the field.

Metcalf was ejected from the game. San Francisco cornerback and former Oregon Ducks’ star Deommodore Lenoir was also tossed from the game. Warner was not disciplined for his role in the fight.

“If you want to call it frustration, then yeah, it’s frustration,” Metcalf told reporters after the game. “From my side, he hit me in the back of the head. I just retaliated.”

Metcalf said he thought Warner still had the football and didn’t realize he had lateraled the football to Greenlaw.

“In my mind, when I see a pick, I turn into a defensive player,” Metcalf said. “I was making a tackle for my team.”

Metcalf’s ejection was the second of his career. He was ejected during the Seahawks’ game at Green Bay in 2021. Metcalf has been fined numerous times during the 2023 season for personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

The Seahawks (6-7) suffered their fourth loss in a row, the first time the team has lost four in a row under head coach Pete Carroll since he took over in 2010. Seattle has lost five of its last six games after starting the season 5-2.
