Defensive snap counts and grades: The swarm stifled Jalen Hurts and the Eagles
The Niners shut down a high-powered offense

The 49ers destroyed Philadelphia, and their defense continued their hot streak out of the bye. The 49ers racked up 46 pressures. That’s an actual stat. A deeper dive shows the secondary for the 49ers likely caused many of the pressures on Sunday. Steve Wilks and his defense have allowed less than 15 PPG since the bye week and his move to the sideline.
Let’s look at the defensive snap counts and grades from Sunday.
Defensive Line – Nick Bosa 52 (85.6), Javon Hargrave 50 (74.6), Chase Young 36 (68.6), Arik Armstead 33 (70.1), Clelin Ferrell 30 (61.1), Randy Gregory 26 (48.5), Kevin Givens 22 (68.0), Javon Kinlaw 22 (70.2), Kalia Davis 19 (71.3)
Nick Bosa led the team with eight pressures. Chase Young was second with seven and finished with an 18.5 win percentage. The impressive pressure (46) and hurry (37) numbers can be explained by the secondary causing Jalen Hurts to hold the ball and allow the line to get home.
Arik Armstead was third in pressures with six and was on a snap count while dealing with his injury. Javon Kinlaw led the team with two sacks and chipped in five pressures and three hurries. Kalia Davis notched the other sack on Sunday in his first extended action. Davis finished with the best pass rush grade at 75.5.
Linebackers – Fred Warner 61 (90.2), Dre Greenlaw 39 (78.8), Oren Burks 26 (68.2), Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles 11 (49.9), Dee Winters 10 (31.0)
Another week, another great performance from Fred Warner, who again led the team with his defensive grade of 90.2. Warner also finished with an 89.7 coverage grade. Throw in three defensive stops, four tackles, and two pressures, and Warner continues to shine.
Despite being ejected, Dre Greenlaw still finished with five tackles, which is good for second on the team. Greenlaw finished with the second-best coverage grade at 81.6
Secondary – Ji’Ayir Brown 72 (68.6), Deommodore Lenoir 72 (54.9), Charvarius Ward 72 (69.2), Tashaun Gipson Sr. 69 (65.3), Ambry Thomas 67 (65.5), Isaiah Oliver 3 (63.5)
Ambry Thomas was targeted ten times and allowed six receptions for 61 yards with three PBU’s. Thomas allowed a 13-yard reception for his longest on the day. Thomas continues to improve and gain confidence.
One of the bigger adjustments has been having Charvarius Ward travel with a team’s best receiver. Ward allowed three receptions on seven targets for 67 yards when facing A.J. Brown. Ward and Thomas tied for the team lead with three PBU’s.
Deommodore Lenoir was tagged with seven receptions on eight targets for 76 yards and a touchdown but finished with a PBU.
