**”I’ll do everything I can to be on top One” – Mathieu van der Poel reveals Tour de France ambitions as he announces his 2025 goals**
Mathieu van der Poel has officially unveiled his ambitions for the 2025 season, confirming that the Tour de France will be his primary focus. The Dutch cycling star, known for his explosive classics performances and stage wins, says he is determined to target the general classification more seriously than ever before.

“I’ll do everything I can to be on top one,” Van der Poel told reporters during a press conference on Monday. “The Tour de France is the biggest race in the world, and it’s time for me to try for something bigger there.”
The Alpecin-Deceuninck rider has long been one of the most versatile cyclists in the peloton, dominating cyclocross, classics, and select Grand Tour stages. But 2025 will mark his most sustained attempt at overall success in a Grand Tour.
“My training will change a bit, with more focus on climbing and endurance,” he explained. “I know it’s a big step, but I’m motivated to give everything.”
Van der Poel also confirmed he will skip some of his usual spring classics in order to focus on altitude camps and preparation for July.
“It’s hard to miss those races, but the Tour demands everything,” he said. “I’m not going just to ride stages—I want to see how far I can go in the GC.”
Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if the multi-talented Dutchman can translate his one-day brilliance into three-week consistency in 2025.
