Visma | Lease a Bike happy with Vingegaard, looking for Pogacar’s weaknesses, and explains Van Aert: “Then you just have to let him go”

Visma | Lease a Bike has shared its strategy and perspective ahead of the Tour de France, expressing satisfaction with Jonas Vingegaard’s progress while openly analyzing how to deal with Tadej Pogačar and manage Wout van Aert’s ambitions.

Team management says they’re “very happy” with Vingegaard’s recovery and preparation, noting that his training numbers suggest he’s ready to defend his Tour title despite his injury setbacks earlier in the season. Staff describe him as “calm but razor-focused,” a rider who knows exactly how to handle the pressure of leading a Grand Tour.

When it comes to Pogačar, sports director Merijn Zeeman was candid about the challenge. “You have to look for his weaknesses,” he explained. “He’s so complete, so explosive—it’s about finding that moment when he overextends or when the team around him shows cracks. That’s what we’ll watch for.”

As for Wout van Aert, the team admitted there are times when they simply have to let him do his own thing. “He’s such a champion, so strong and so proud,” Zeeman said. “You can’t always hold him back if he wants to go for a stage or even help a teammate in his own way. Then you just have to let him go. That’s the balance we have to strike as a team.”

Overall, Visma | Lease a Bike is aiming for maximum adaptability in the 2025 Tour, leaning on Vingegaard’s proven steadiness, tactical discipline against Pogačar, and letting Van Aert’s talent shine when the moment is right.
