TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The aftermath of Alabama’s dramatic 50–36 victory over Florida State has quickly shifted from the scoreboard to questions surrounding officiating, with claims circulating online that four officials from Saturday’s game have been suspended pending an investigation.
However, as of Sunday, there has been no verified announcement from Alabama, Florida State, the SEC, the ACC or another official governing body confirming that four members of the officiating crew have been suspended. The official game records identify the eight officials who worked the contest, but do not list any suspensions or disciplinary action.
That distinction is important as the controversy continues to spread across social media.
The highly anticipated matchup at Bryant-Denny Stadium produced one of the most dramatic games of the young college football season. Florida State entered the contest looking to make a statement against No. 10 Alabama and appeared to be on its way to doing exactly that after racing to a 21–6 advantage.
The Seminoles established control early, finding success through quarterback Ashton Daniels and their explosive passing attack. Duce Robinson finished with six receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown, while Florida State repeatedly created problems for the Alabama defense.
Alabama eventually responded.
Quarterback Keelon Russell helped lead a remarkable comeback, throwing for 320 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for a touchdown. The Crimson Tide finished with 567 total yards and scored 37 points after the second-quarter weather delay.
The game itself was interrupted twice by lightning, including a 34-minute delay in the second quarter. The unusual circumstances added another layer of drama to an already intense matchup.
After play resumed, Alabama’s momentum changed dramatically.
The Crimson Tide intercepted Daniels and quickly converted the turnover into points. Alabama then continued attacking downfield, eventually taking a 26–21 lead into halftime.
Florida State briefly regained control in the third quarter. Daniels connected with Landen Thomas for a touchdown after a 75-yard drive, putting the Seminoles back in front 28–26.
But Alabama answered again.
The Crimson Tide scored on consecutive drives to take a 40–28 advantage and eventually extended the lead to 43–28. Florida State mounted another late comeback attempt, cutting the deficit to seven points after Daniels scored his second rushing touchdown and the Seminoles converted a two-point attempt.
Alabama ultimately put the game away with a 90-yard touchdown drive, finishing the comeback with a 50–36 victory.
The final statistics show that Alabama’s victory involved more than disputed officiating. The Crimson Tide produced 615 total yards according to game coverage, while Florida State finished with 471. Alabama also generated 247 rushing yards and forced three interceptions from Daniels.
Nevertheless, any controversial officiating decisions are likely to remain a major talking point among Florida State supporters.
The officiating crew listed in the official game book included referee Kyle Olson, line judge Colin Gaynor, side judge Gordon Everett Jr., umpire Rod Tucker, back judge Tom Fimmen, center judge Chris Garner, linesman Chadwick Green and field judge John Wisnewski.
At this point, there is no official confirmation that four of those officials have been suspended.
If an investigation is formally announced, additional information could clarify whether specific calls were reviewed and whether any disciplinary action is warranted. Until then, claims of suspensions should be treated as unverified rather than established fact.
For Alabama, the focus now turns toward maintaining its undefeated start. The Crimson Tide improved to 3–0 overall and 1–0 in SEC play following Saturday’s victory.
For Florida State, the loss dropped the Seminoles to 1–2.
The controversy surrounding the officiating may continue to dominate online discussions, but the official record currently remains clear: Alabama overcame a 15-point deficit, scored 37 points after the weather interruption and defeated Florida State 50–36.
