The Jacksonville Jaguars will have to adjust their offensive line depth after veteran interior lineman Trystan Colon announced his retirement from the NFL at just 28 years old. The surprise decision comes only a few months after Colon signed a one-year contract with Jacksonville, ending a professional career that spanned six seasons and included stops with four different organizations. The Jaguars have officially placed him on the reserve/retired list.
Colon joined the Jaguars in June as an experienced depth option capable of playing center as well as both guard positions. His versatility made him an attractive addition for a Jacksonville offensive line looking to improve its depth entering the 2026 season. However, before the regular season even began, Colon decided it was time to step away from football.
Although the reason for his retirement has not been publicly disclosed, the announcement marks the end of a respectable NFL journey for a player who entered the league without the benefit of being drafted. After starring at the University of Missouri, Colon signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He quickly earned a reputation as a dependable backup capable of filling multiple roles along the interior offensive line.
Throughout his career, Colon appeared in 63 regular-season games while making 19 starts. He spent his first three seasons with the Ravens before joining the Arizona Cardinals, where he continued to prove his value as a versatile lineman. Last season, he played for the Detroit Lions, appearing in 12 games and starting four at center. His ability to step into the lineup when injuries struck helped Detroit maintain stability along the offensive front during the 2025 campaign.
Jacksonville viewed Colon as an experienced veteran who could compete for a roster spot while providing insurance behind the team’s projected starters. His experience at all three interior offensive line positions gave the coaching staff valuable flexibility, particularly during training camp competitions. Instead, the Jaguars will now need to rely on younger players or seek another veteran to replace the depth lost through his retirement.
While Colon never became a household name, his career serves as an example of perseverance and professionalism. Undrafted players often face an uphill battle simply to make an NFL roster, yet Colon carved out six productive seasons through consistency, versatility, and hard work. Coaches across multiple organizations trusted him to fill important roles whenever called upon, a testament to his preparation and football intelligence.
His retirement also highlights the physical and mental demands of playing in the NFL. Offensive linemen endure constant punishment in one of football’s most demanding positions, and many players choose to step away while still healthy enough to begin the next chapter of their lives.
