The New Orleans Saints have suffered another significant blow during training camp, with offensive lineman Dillon Radunz ruled out for the entire 2026 season after suffering a torn ACL. The injury creates an immediate depth concern along the offensive line and could accelerate the development of rookie guard Jeremiah Wright.
Radunz had been expected to provide valuable versatility and experience for New Orleans. The Saints re-signed him to a two-year contract in March after he appeared in 15 games and made 10 starts during the 2025 season, all of those starts coming at left guard. He has also played both guard and tackle positions during his NFL career.
His loss is particularly frustrating because Radunz was supposed to give the Saints insurance across multiple offensive-line positions. Instead, New Orleans must now find another player capable of absorbing those snaps.
That is where Wright becomes especially important.
The Saints selected Wright in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft with the 132nd overall pick. He entered the organization as a developmental offensive guard with the physical tools to eventually compete for a major role. During rookie minicamp, Saints coaches emphasized that Wright’s position requires a different evaluation once the pads come on because offensive linemen are judged heavily on technique, strength and physicality.
Radunz’s injury could force that development process to move much faster.
Wright will have an opportunity to demonstrate that he can handle NFL competition earlier than originally anticipated. The rookie has already been dealing with his own shoulder issue, however, making his availability something the Saints will have to monitor carefully. The latest reports indicate that Wright’s potential increased role comes at a difficult time because of that injury concern.
For New Orleans, the situation illustrates how quickly an NFL team’s depth chart can change during training camp. Radunz was not necessarily the centerpiece of the offensive line, but his experience and versatility gave the coaching staff flexibility. Losing him means younger players may have to take on responsibilities sooner than expected.
The Saints have other options. Veterans such as Cesar Ruiz and other offensive-line players can help absorb the workload, while the coaching staff can shuffle positions if necessary. But Wright represents an intriguing long-term option because the organization invested a draft pick in him specifically with the expectation that he could develop into a contributor.
The pressure will now be on Wright to show that he can handle the physical demands of professional football.
The Saints are already dealing with other injury setbacks during camp, making depth increasingly important. Radunz’s ACL injury is particularly painful because it occurred before the regular season had even begun.
Ultimately, Wright does not have to replace everything Radunz brought to the Saints immediately. He simply needs to prove that he can be reliable, learn quickly and take advantage of the additional opportunities coming his way.
Radunz’s season-ending injury is a major setback for New Orleans, but it could become a defining opportunity for Jeremiah Wright. If the rookie can stay healthy and develop quickly, the Saints may discover an important piece of their offensive-line future while dealing with an unfortunate loss.
