The New Orleans Saints have been dealt another significant blow during training camp, with veteran defensive end Cam Jordan expected to miss an extended period because of a hamstring injury.
Saints head coach Kellen Moore confirmed the injury and indicated that Jordan’s absence could stretch into the regular season. While the team has not provided an exact timetable for his return, the situation is serious enough to raise questions about whether the longtime defensive leader will be available when New Orleans opens its 2026 campaign.

Jordan suffered the injury during training camp and has already missed multiple practices. The timing is particularly frustrating for a Saints team attempting to establish a new identity under Moore and defensive coordinator Brandon Staley.
At 37 years old, Jordan remains one of the most recognizable and accomplished players in franchise history. The eight-time Pro Bowler has spent his entire NFL career with New Orleans after being selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He has been a cornerstone of the Saints’ defense for more than a decade.
His importance goes beyond his statistics. Jordan’s experience, leadership and ability to command attention from opposing offensive lines make him particularly valuable to a young defense. Losing him for an extended stretch could therefore create challenges both on the field and inside the locker room.
The Saints now have to prepare for the possibility that Jordan will not be ready for the beginning of the season. The defensive line will need other players to absorb his snaps and help generate pressure without one of its most experienced pass rushers.
That could create opportunities for players such as Chase Young, Carl Granderson and the team’s younger defensive linemen to take on larger roles. The Saints will also have to be careful not to rush Jordan back, especially given the nature of hamstring injuries and the importance of having him healthy for the long haul.
The news comes during an already difficult stretch for New Orleans, which has seen several injuries pile up during camp.
For now, the Saints’ priority is getting Jordan healthy rather than establishing an aggressive return date. If he can recover in time to contribute early in the season, his presence could provide a major boost. If the injury keeps him out longer, however, New Orleans will need its younger defensive players to step up quickly.
For a franchise legend entering what could be his final season, Jordan’s hamstring injury is an unwelcome setback at a crucial time.
