A major new chapter is unfolding for the Dallas Cowboys and their home at AT&T Stadium after Arlington officials approved a long-term agreement designed to keep the franchise in the city through 2055.
The agreement represents one of the biggest commitments surrounding the Cowboys’ home stadium since AT&T Stadium opened in 2009. Rather than demolishing the iconic venue, the approved plan calls for substantial investment in the stadium complex, infrastructure, security, maintenance and fan experience.
Under the agreement approved by the Arlington City Council, the Cowboys will remain at AT&T Stadium for an additional 15 years beyond the previous lease arrangement. The deal extends the team’s lease through 2055, providing a long-term framework for the Cowboys to continue playing their home games in Arlington.
The financial commitment is significant.
The Cowboys have agreed to invest a minimum of $750 million in maintenance, operations and improvements to the stadium complex through the extended lease period. Arlington, meanwhile, has agreed to contribute up to approximately $273 million through a dedicated maintenance and operations account over a 20-year period.
The agreement is designed to ensure that AT&T Stadium remains capable of hosting major sporting events, concerts and entertainment productions for decades.
Among the planned improvements are enhanced security systems, upgrades designed to maintain high safety standards, improvements to traffic flow and pedestrian safety, and other projects intended to improve the overall event experience.
The Cowboys will front the costs of eligible improvements and lead the design and construction process, with work expected to continue over the coming years. According to Arlington officials, improvements are planned to be completed by 2043.
The agreement also provides additional certainty for one of the most recognizable venues in American sports.
AT&T Stadium has already undergone major improvements since opening. A previous renovation project included upgrades to premium clubs and suites, technology improvements, additional concessions and other enhancements. That renovation was valued at approximately $295 million.
The latest agreement comes as AT&T Stadium continues to serve as a major sports and entertainment destination. The venue has hosted NFL games, major concerts, college football events, the NFL Draft and international sporting competitions.
The stadium also played a major role in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosting nine matches, including a semifinal. The event further highlighted Arlington’s position as a major international sports destination.
For Cowboys fans, the agreement means the iconic home of America’s Team is set to remain in place for many years rather than being replaced by an entirely new stadium.
The long-term arrangement also has economic implications for Arlington. City officials cited an independent analysis estimating that Cowboys stadium operations, visitor spending and related economic activity could generate approximately $9.7 billion for the Arlington economy from 2026 through 2055.
The agreement also continues existing lease and naming-rights arrangements while extending the Cowboys’ commitment to charitable contributions supporting local youth programs.
For now, the future of AT&T Stadium is centered not on demolition, but on transformation.
The Cowboys are preparing to invest heavily in their existing home, while Arlington is committing public resources toward maintaining the stadium complex and surrounding infrastructure.
The result is a long-term partnership designed to keep the Cowboys in Arlington and AT&T Stadium at the center of the franchise’s future.
