How does LSU rank on college football

LSU’s 2027 Recruiting Class Holds Top-10 Ranking Despite Recent Setbacks

BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU’s 2027 football recruiting class remains a consensus top-10 haul nationally, but the Tigers are navigating late-cycle attrition as the early signing period approaches.

According to the Rivals Industry Rankings, LSU’s class ranks No. 10 nationally and No. 5 in the SEC . The 16-commit group is headlined by five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson of Ruston, Louisiana, who ranks No. 37 overall and No. 2 at his position . He is joined in the top 100 by edge rushers Chris Whitehead and K.J. Green, and quarterback Peyton Houston .

The ranking is not uniform across recruiting services. 247Sports lists the class at No. 11 nationally following a recent decommitment, while ESPN has placed the Tigers as low as No. 17 . Twelve of the commitments are rated as blue-chip prospects, and seven hail from Louisiana .

Recent Defections Test Depth

The class absorbed two significant blows in recent weeks. On Oct. 11, five-star wide receiver Easton Royal — the top player in Louisiana and No. 5 overall nationally — flipped his commitment from Texas to Florida, spurning a prolonged push from coach Lane Kiffin’s staff . Less than two weeks later, three-star running back Brennen Lacey announced his decommitment, dropping LSU’s pledge count to 15 .

Lacey, from Frisco, Texas, was ranked No. 505 overall and No. 33 among running backs . Despite the losses, LSU retains two four-star running backs in Tre Segarra and Trey Martin, both ranked among the nation’s top 15 at the position .

Key Targets Remain in Play

The staff’s attention now turns to retention and potential flips. Four-star tight end Ahmad Hudson has a scheduled visit to Nebraska this fall, making his commitment one to monitor . Meanwhile, LSU continues its pursuit of five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, currently pledged to Texas Tech, and four-star offensive lineman Albert Simien .

With the early signing period in December, LSU’s ability to hold its current class and add late blue-chip talent will determine whether the Tigers finish inside the top 10 for a second consecutive cycle under Kiffin.
