CONFIRMED: Tadej Pogačar Will Depart from UAE Team Emirates XRG After 2025 Season
In a seismic shift for the professional cycling world, Tadej Pogačar has officially confirmed that he will leave UAE Team Emirates XRG at the end of the 2025 season. The Slovenian superstar, widely regarded as one of the greatest talents of his generation, is set to close a historic chapter with the team that shaped his meteoric rise.
The announcement was made early Tuesday morning via a joint statement from Pogačar and UAE Team Emirates, confirming growing rumors about his future plans beyond 2025.
“After seven unforgettable years, I’ve decided that 2025 will be my final season with UAE Team Emirates XRG,” Pogačar said. “This team believed in me when I was just a teenager, and together we achieved things I could have only dreamed of. But I believe the time is right to look ahead and take on new challenges in my career.”
Pogačar joined the Emirati squad in 2019 and quickly became its defining rider, winning back-to-back Tour de France titles in 2020 and 2021, along with victories at Il Lombardia, Liège–Bastogne–Liège, and multiple Tour de France stages. His aggressive racing style, tactical intelligence, and charisma helped transform UAE Team Emirates into one of the dominant forces in WorldTour racing.
Team principal Mauro Gianetti expressed deep gratitude for Pogačar’s contributions, calling his departure “bittersweet but respectful.”
“Tadej will always be part of the DNA of this team. What we built together over these years was special — historic. We fully support his decision and look forward to making the most of our final season together.”
Though Pogačar has not announced his next destination, speculation is swirling around possible moves to INEOS Grenadiers, Team Visma | Lease a Bike, or even a bold new team project reportedly in the works. Sources close to the rider suggest that his future plans will be revealed after the 2025 World Championships.
In the meantime, Pogačar is expected to lead UAE Team Emirates XRG in all three Grand Tours next year, with clear ambitions to reclaim the yellow jersey in Paris and add more Monument victories to his résumé.
“I’m not done yet,” Pogačar said. “There’s a lot more I want to give — to this team, to the fans, and to the sport I love.”
As one of the most decorated and admired figures in modern cycling prepares to turn the page, fans around the globe are already preparing for an emotional final season of brilliance from the Slovenian phenomenon in UAE colors.
