“We tried to make it hard but Pogacar was simply the strongest” – Wout van Aert sees familiar pattern for Visma on Tour
Wout van Aert has offered an honest assessment after another stage where Visma | Lease a Bike came up short against Tadej Pogacar at the Tour de France. Despite aggressive tactics and repeated attacks, the Slovenian star proved too strong once again.
“We tried to make it hard, but Pogacar was simply the strongest today,” Van Aert told reporters at the finish. “We threw everything at it. The team did a great job to make it selective, but in the end he just had more in the legs.”
Van Aert acknowledged that Visma is finding itself in a familiar situation: using coordinated moves to try to isolate Pogacar, only to see him respond with his trademark explosiveness. “It’s frustrating because you feel like you’re doing everything right tactically, but then he still finds a way,” he said.
The Belgian rider remained determined, however, insisting the team won’t give up on their yellow jersey ambitions. “We’ll keep fighting. The Tour isn’t over. We’ll keep looking for opportunities and pushing him every day. That’s all we can do.”
