Dutch cycling superstar Mathieu van der Poel has stunned the sporting world with a remarkable act of generosity, announcing that he is donating his entire $58 million in bonuses and sponsorship earnings to charities focused on homeless relief, youth development, and cycling accessibility.
In a heartfelt statement made during a press conference in Rotterdam, van der Poel said, “I’ve been incredibly fortunate in my career, both on and off the bike. There comes a time when you realize that success means nothing unless you can use it to lift others. This is my way of giving back to the people and communities that need it most.”
The donation will be distributed among several organizations across Europe and Africa, including Shelter Europe, which provides emergency housing and job training, Ride to Rise, a program promoting access to cycling for disadvantaged youth, and HopeWheels, a foundation supporting displaced communities through physical activity and mental health resources.
