CONFIRMED: Mathieu van der Poel Will Depart from Team Alpecin–Deceuninck After 2025 Season
In a stunning announcement that marks the end of a historic partnership, Mathieu van der Poel has confirmed he will leave Team Alpecin–Deceuninck at the conclusion of the 2025 season. The Dutch superstar, a multi-discipline champion and one of the most dynamic riders of his generation, has been synonymous with the team for over a decade.
The news was made official on Monday morning via a team statement and a personal message from van der Poel himself, confirming months of speculation about his future.

“After so many incredible years, I’ve decided that 2025 will be my final season with Alpecin–Deceuninck,” van der Poel said. “This team gave me the platform to grow, race my way, and build a legacy. I’m forever grateful. But the time has come to explore new challenges — and I’m excited for what’s next.”
Van der Poel joined the team in 2011, when it was still a Continental squad, and helped elevate it to WorldTour status. During his time with Alpecin–Deceuninck, he claimed victories in Monuments like Milan–San Remo, Paris–Roubaix, Tour of Flanders, and Strade Bianche, as well as multiple Tour de France stage wins and world titles in both cyclo-cross and road racing.
Team management called the departure “the end of a golden era,” while expressing full support for his decision.
“Mathieu has been the heart of our project from the beginning,” said team director Christoph Roodhooft. “His passion, versatility, and charisma elevated this team and the sport. He leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.”
Van der Poel has not yet confirmed where he will race next, though rumors have linked him to Jumbo-Visma, INEOS Grenadiers, and even a possible shift toward more focused gravel, MTB, or Olympic ambitions.
For now, the 2025 season will serve as a farewell tour for the rider fans affectionately call “MVDP,” with targets expected to include the Spring Classics, Tour de France, and the World Championships.
“I want to finish this chapter with pride, passion, and a few more big wins,” he added. “And then… a new story begins.”
As cycling prepares to say goodbye to one of its most electrifying team-rider pairings, the spotlight on van der Poel’s every move in 2025 will shine even brighter.
