SAD NEWS: 26-year-old Cyclist Tadej Pogačar Forced to End Career: “I Had No Choice”

In a heartbreaking development for the world of cycling, Slovenian superstar Tadej Pogačar has announced that he is retiring from professional racing at just 26 years old. The UAE Team Emirates leader, widely seen as one of the most gifted riders of his generation, revealed that persistent health issues have made it impossible to continue competing at the highest level.

“I had no choice,” Pogačar said in an emotional statement. “I’ve been battling these problems for a while, and despite the best medical advice and treatment, it’s clear I can’t go on without risking serious, permanent damage to my health.”

Pogačar’s career, though short, was packed with historic achievements. He won two consecutive Tour de France titles, a Giro d’Italia crown, and numerous Classics, earning praise for his aggressive racing style and extraordinary versatility.

Teammates, rivals, and fans around the world have been quick to share messages of support and sadness. UAE Team Emirates called Pogačar “a once-in-a-generation champion whose legacy will inspire for decades.”

Though stepping away from racing, Pogačar expressed hope that he could stay connected to the sport in other roles, saying: “Cycling has given me everything. I want to find a way to give something back, even if I can’t race anymore.”
